Estuary
Estuary brings together a series of iterative works in watercolour, collage, and oil paint. The exhibition is grounded in the Rupila Mangina / Pipers River Estuary, a place close to where I live and work, which I imagine as both primordial and timeless.
Abalone, oyster shells, along with salt crystals are starting points for developing language of forms and patterns related to the estuarian waters. Through processes of simplification, repetition, and juxtaposition of organic and geometric forms I create compositions that evoke generative energies and movement. I draw on embodied experiences and mythological references from Slavic and Balkan traditions, which represented living waters as a body of a female deity.
